Robert Shetterly’s portrait series “Americans Who Tell the Truth”—a celebration of historical figures who have changed America with their brave words—has been displayed at venues across the country. Since 2003, the exhibit has visited 26 states, with sites ranging from the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City and the Superior Court in San Francisco to grade-school libraries and coffee shops.
A book of the portraits, published in 2005, won the top award of the International Reading Association for intermediate non-fiction. An accomplished and diverse artist, Shetterly has created editorial page drawings for the Maine Times newspaper, illustrated National Audubon’s children’s newspaper Audubon Adventures, and contributed illustrations to approximately 30 books.
